Super Mario Galaxy Film Teaser Arrives, Unveiling New Characters Rosalina & Bowser Jr. Actors

The collaboration between Nintendo and Illumination unveiled the first full-length trailer for The Super Mario Galaxy Movie this Wednesday. The reveal happened in a Nintendo-focused broadcast that highlighted the forthcoming animated feature.

The sequel to the 2023 blockbuster The Super Mario Bros. Movie, this new installment will send Mario to the far corners of the universe. In his journey, he meets a new princess and a formidable new rival in Bowser Jr., the son of the King of the Koopas.

A Space-Faring Quest Drawing from Classic Games

Similar to the Wii-era games that provide its foundation, Mario will depart from the familiar comforts of the Mushroom Kingdom to explore outer space. Throughout his extensive trek, he will encounter once more some recognizable characters, such as the Luma, a fan favorite from the first movie.

Yet it looks like Mario and his sibling Luigi will face a fresh enemy in the form of Bowser's angry little boy, who apparently utilizes powers related to metal. Notably, the teaser for The Super Mario Galaxy Movie is not solely focused on Galaxy-inspired imagery; it also includes nods to further iconic releases like Super Mario Odyssey and Bowser's Fury.

Star-Studded Voice Cast Come Back and Grow

The movie will see the return of the initial voice actors, with Chris Pratt as Mario, Anya Taylor-Joy as Peach, Charlie Day as Luigi, Jack Black as Bowser, Keegan-Michael Key as Toad, and Kevin Michael Richardson as Kamek.

Joining the cast for The Super Mario Galaxy Movie are Brie Larson, who will voice Rosalina, and Benny Safdie, set to represent Bowser Jr. The casting was verified by Illumination CEO Chris Meledandri.

A Big Year for Mario

The new Mario movie is planned to debut close to the four-decade milestone of the first Super Mario Bros. title. Beyond the film, 2026 looks set to be a significant year for Mario and his allies.

Nintendo has a trio of new releases officially announced for 2026, such as Mario Tennis Fever, a version for Switch 2 of Super Mario Bros. Wonder, and a latest Yoshi adventure game titled Yoshi and the Mysterious Book.

Launch Date Set

The Super Mario Galaxy Movie is planned for launch on April 3, 2026.
